Privacy Policy

A plain-English explanation of what information the Old Mizekians Association website collects and why.

This policy describes what the site actually does, in plain language. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer: the Association's committee should have it checked against Zimbabwe's Cyber and Data Protection Act (and other relevant laws for members based abroad) before treating it as a final legal document.

Information You Give Us Directly

When you register, we collect your name, email, phone number, hostel, years at the College, and any optional details you choose to add (nickname, current activities, postal address, date of birth, gender). Admin/Super Admin accounts may also register a second email as a backup.

This information is used to run the Association: verifying membership, sending event invitations and newsletters, processing subscriptions and donations, and, only if you opt in, listing you in the members-only Alumni Directory.

Date of birth and gender are optional and self-reported. We use them only to build aggregate Membership Reports (for example, age brackets and a gender breakdown of the membership); they are never shown to other members and never used to identify or single out an individual member.

Your email and phone number are never shown to other members, even in the Directory. When another member wants to reach you, they send a message through the site, and we relay it to you with their contact details; yours are never revealed to them without your reply.

First-Party Site Analytics

Like most websites, we keep basic records of how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly how long visits last, what type of device and browser was used, and an approximate country of origin (from your IP address). This helps us understand which pages matter and improve the site.

This tracking is deliberately minimal:

Your IP address is never stored in full: the last portion is removed before it's saved, leaving only enough to estimate a country, not to identify you individually.
We don't sell, share, or send this information to advertisers.
No account is required for this tracking to apply, and it applies equally to everyone browsing the public site.

Google Analytics (if enabled)

The Association may use Google Analytics for deeper insight into site traffic, including approximate age/gender breakdowns of visitors. If enabled, you'll see a consent banner and can decline it; declining still lets you use the full site. If accepted, some visit data (pages viewed, approximate location, device type) is shared with Google, subject to Google's own Privacy Policy.

Payments & Donations

Subscription and donation payments are either recorded manually by the Treasurer from a payment reference you provide, or (once configured) processed through ContiPay, a licensed Zimbabwean payment gateway. We don't store your card or mobile money PIN details ourselves.

Email

Emails from the Association (newsletters, invitations, password resets, contact form replies) are sent from oldmizekians.co.zw's own mail servers. We don't use your email address for anything beyond Association business.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies: one to keep you logged in, one to remember repeat visits for our own traffic statistics, and (only if Google Analytics is enabled and you accept) Google's own analytics cookies.

Your Rights

You can update or correct your registered details at any time from My Account. To request a copy of your data, ask for it to be deleted, or ask any other question about this policy, please use the Contact Us page.
